Snewzer is an app that lets you to remove articles from your news feed that you'd rather not see. It provides a way to hide (i.e. snooze) articles by category, keywords, and source, so that you only see the articles you want.
At times, we've grown weary of the constant bombardment of news about certain people and topics that dominate the news cycles.
We wanted a way to turn them off, but couldn't find a news site (or app) that lets you do that with any real precision. We reached out to some news folks, requesting this feature, but it seems that it's not something they're not all that interested in.
That's why we created Snewzer: so you can snooze the news you want to lose.
Snewzer works by fetching the latest "top news" articles from major news feeds and snoozing them *before* you even see them.
These have been styled, tested, and are known to work with Snewzer, including the opening of articles in the source's app (except Google News).
If you know the URL of a RSS feed, you can add it to Snewzer on the "Settings" tab.
You can remove, rename, and change a feed's font style by tapping "Manage Custom Feed' on the "Settings' tab.
Most custom feeds will work with Snoozer but may not open articles in the feed source's app.
If a custom feed doesn't work as expected, let us know on our Contact Page, and we'll look into it.
You can snooze news by category, keywords, and source. Some news sources categorize their articles (e.g. The New York Times and Fox News), while others don't.
When a news source supports categories, you can select "Snooze by Category" to see a list of categories. When you select a category, all news articles with that category will be snoozed, and you won't see them again until you unsnooze them.
If you want to go thermonuclear on an article and all of its categories, press and hold the article. This will display a list of the categories associated with that article. Tap "Snooze All" and every article containing any of those categories will be snoozed.
You can snooze articles from any news source by using keywords. Simply enter a word or phrase into the "Snooze by Keyword(s)" field, and articles with that word or phrase in their title and/or blurb will be snoozed. This can be adjusted on the "Keywords" tab, using the "Keyword Snooze Scope."
Used indiscriminately, this feature can result in things being unintentionally snoozed. Using phrases may yield better results. See the FAQ for more info.
Both Google News and reddit are news aggregators, bringing news articles together from multiple sources.
If you'd like to snooze articles from a specific news source (e.g. newsyoudontlike.com), you can tap on the "Snooze Button" and you won't see any more articles from that source.
To unsnooze a category, go to the "Categories" tab and tap the "unsnooze" button for the category you wish to unsnooze.
You can also unsnooze all categories by tapping on the aptly named "Unsnooze All Categories' button.
Keywords work pretty much the same way: just tap on "Keywords" then tap the "X" on any keyword to unsnooze it.
When you set your news feed to Google News or reddit, you will see the "Sources" tab. This is where you can unsnooze sources.
